Thomas Kupfer

Former Ambassador
Switzerland to Singapore

Thomas Kupfer has been Switzerland’s Ambassador to Singapore from 2012 to 2018. He joined the Diplomatic Service of the Swiss Foreign Ministry in 1983. Since then, he has held different positions both in headquarters Bern and overseas, including Embassy in Washington, DC (1984), Mission to the European Union in Brussels (1991) and Embassy in Rome (1995). He served as Ambassador for Humanitarian Affairs based in Geneva (2000-2001), Ambassador to Colombia (2004-2008) and Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (2008-2012). He was also the Deputy Director General of Africa & Middle East (2001-2003) and Secretary General of the XXVIII International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva (2003).

The 35-year veteran of the diplomatic corps completed his law studies at the University of Zurich in 1978 and obtained a license as an attorney for the Bar of Zurich in 1981.

He brings with him his wealth of diplomatic experience in his new role as Senior Consultant with RHTLaw Taylor Wessing. His working languages are English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

As a Senior Consultant, he will be advising clients on the political, economic, business and legal context, risk analysis as well as investment and business opportunities in Europe/Switzerland and South East Asia/Singapore.
